Foam Removal at Smith Lake

Target found, acquired and disposed of. (Properly, of course!)

Apr 22 results as of 4 PMLarge Styrofoam blocks like these were the target of the Smith Lake cleanup on April 21-22, and from the looks of these photos our crews found what they were looking for!

It’s amazing when you see it all piled up in one place, and then realize it’s not in the lake anymore. A big thanks to John Fuller for taking these pictures and sending them to us.

We’re hoping to not see these stacks anymore. January 1, 2010 was the deadline to remove all beaded foam from lakes. The Smith Lake Environmental Preservation Committee has an update about the issue in their latest online newsletter, and the Winston County Smith Lake Advocacy group talked about it on their blog here.
