Did you know any Boy or Girl Scout can earn a great looking patch for participating in a Renew our Rivers clean-up?
The only requirement is to volunteer at any of the 23 scheduled clean-ups across the state.
Have your troop leader contact me for more information. It’s a great way for scouts to get involved in an earth friendly and fun activity while earning service hours.
And here’s the downloadable flyer.

I ran across a neat quote from Doug Powell, the Alabama Power environmental affairs specialist who’s been organizing cleanups for all ten years of Renew Our Rivers:
“There’s no such thing as an unsuccessful cleanup – some are just more productive than others. Because of the increased grassroots support of Renew Our Rivers, Alabama Power’s role has shifted from the key player to being one of many players. Having communities become empowered to undertake the cleanups is one of our overall goals to continue the success of the program.”

Come and support a clean up on Lake Mitchell!
Just a short drive from the Birmingham area, Lake Mitchell is a popular destination for residents across the state. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Higgins Ferry Park at 8:00 a.m. and we’ll conclude with a picnic around noon.
You can contact Anita Lawson with the Lake Mitchell Home and Boat Owners Association at (205) 960-5083 for more information.
The forecasts call for a nice spring day with a high of 70. It should be a gorgeous day to get out on the lake and do a good turn for the beauty of one of Alabama’s oldest and most beautiful lakes.
(Don’t forget to send us your before-and-after pictures and videos. The details are on the submissions page.)
